What is "Backpacks Unite"?

This is United Way of Russell and Washington Counties backpack program that will launch in both Russell and Washington County School system to provide nutritional meals to students.

How can I donate?

Online:

You can donate on this website through our secure online donation system.

Mail:

Make check payable to United Way, P.O. Box 644, Abingdon, VA 24212.
On the memo of the check put "Backpack Program".

Phone:

Call the United Way office at (276) 628-2160 to make a donation by credit card.

Mobile:

Make a $10 donation by texting the word BACKPACK to 27722. (Standard text message rates do apply.)

Can I sponsor a school?

Yes, any company or organization can sponsor a school for the entire year. Your company name/logo will appear on the storage bins that each elementary will receive each month for awareness that you are a donor.

How can I volunteer to help?

On Mondays during the school year we will be assembling the food bags at Pleasant View Methodist Church in Abingdon, VA. Here are the dates you can volunteer:

Will the money raised go towards other expenses?

No, the money raised for this program is 100% put into the backpack program. Any financial contributions received will be strictly used towards the program with no administrator or overhead fees withheld.
