HOW IT WORKS

United Way will create a volunteer team that will meet the first Monday of every Month at Pleasant View United Methodist Church in Abingdon, VA. There will be a total of 17 elementary schools that will receive 4 plastic storage pins each month. 340 students will be receiving food each week.

The volunteers will sort and separate the food into individual plastic bags for each student. The food will be labeled for school and labeled for each week. United Way volunteers will deliver the storage containers to the appropriate school the first Tuesday or Wednesday of each month.

WHAT FOOD ITEMS ARE INCLUDED IN THE BACKPACK?

Sample items include peanut butter, granola bars, raisins, fruit cups, oatmeal crackers, canned tuna, wheat crackers...and much more!!

The staff at the schools will be responsible for storing these containers in a safe dry location. The staff will be responsible for distributing the food to the student every Friday during the school year.
